Frequently asked questions

Most frequent questions and answers

JD’s Joyrides is based in downtown Boulder, just two blocks east of the Pearl Street Mall.

We are located in the alley behind Dojo4 Tech Shop, just steps past the 2-story manatee mural. The official address is:

2030 17th St., Boulder 80302

JD’s Joyrides does not have any off-street parking. There’s a 3-hour limit on free parking in our area, so a 3-hour ride puts you at risk of getting a ticket. Some options:

- walk
- ride your own bike (we will store it securely while we ride)
- ride a B-cycle (there’s a stand to return them about 1.5 blocks from us)
- take The Hop bus (there’s a stop within 2 blocks)
- park east of 20th St or south of Walnut St and walk over (about 10 mins)
- park in one of the downtown garages and walk over

JD’s Joyrides does not have a public restroom. There’ll be places to stop along the way.

Fortunately, biking is one of the “cleanest” activities you can still enjoy in this time of virus. As of this writing, there are no local mask mandates. However, some local businesses still do require masks and in the event we should stop at one (bathroom, beer or coffee break, for example) it’s a good idea to have one with you just in case. And, of course, if you’re feeling ill or symptomatic, please consider rebooking.

Depending on the ride you book, you can expect to see some or all of murals, mountains, bike paths, Boulder’s unique urban/natural interface and, if we’re lucky, some wildlife. We’ll visit objects of interest as well as some popular Boulder sites/sights. To do that, we’ll go through several neighborhoods. We’ll ride on a mix of bike paths, trails and surface streets (we keep our time on busy streets to an absolute minimum). We’ll stop along the way for water/rest breaks, picture opportunities, etc.

If you can ride a bike, you can ride an eBike. The “e” in these bikes is pedal assist: if you pedal, the bike will help. You’ll still have to pedal to climb hills, but without gasping for breath or soaking in sweat when you get to the top. In the end, you’ll feel like you rode a bike, but it is by no means a strenuous ride. Exhilarating, yes, but not strenuous. If you can walk a couple of miles with relative ease and have a basic level of comfort on a regular bicycle, then you should have no problem with our bikes.

Anyone from 5’ to 6’6” should be able to ride pretty comfortably. Max weight is 275.

Riders must be 14 years of age or older (ages 14-17 must be accompanied by a guardian).

All riders must complete an online waiver before riding.

Comfortable clothes for being outdoors on a bike. Please check the forecast for the full day you are riding. Conditions can change quickly in Colorado.
Protection against wind and rain are recommended. You’ll be riding a bike a little faster than usual and wind chill can be a real thing.
Closed-toe shoes are recommended. NO flip-flops please!

- Sunscreen
- Water bottle (we provide bottled water if you don’t bring one)
- Helmet (we will provide one if you don’t bring one)

Reservations are confirmed when payment is received. For standard bookings, payment is fully refundable if you cancel more than 24 hours in advance of your reservation.

For private and group bookings, your payment is refundable less a 25% deposit for cancellations more than 48 hours in advance.

If reservations are cancelled within 24 hours of the starting time of the bike tour (or 48 hours in the case of a private or group booking), payment will not be refunded. If you do not show up for your reserved tour, no refund will be issued. We appreciate your understanding.

Weather conditions can change rapidly in Boulder and safety is our highest priority. If the weather is inclement and not conducive to a safe and pleasant tour, JD's Joyrides will cancel the tour and riders can reschedule for another day or receive a full refund.
