Highly recommend this e-bike rental experience. My 16 year-old daughter and I rented bikes and did our own Boulder experience. Joel provided detailed operation instruction, and several choices of Google Maps with directions for each route. The bikes operated perfectly, the transaction was super easy, and the host couldn’t have been more friendly. We had a great time on the bike trails, and enjoyed climbing to the base of the Flatirons where trailheads begin. If you’re thinking about doing it, go for it! 5 stars all day!Tim

As someone who hasnt been back to Boulder in nearly 30yrs, my wife and i rented bikes from JDs bike shop and i could not have had a better experience! JD as well as his staff were very polite and friendly, gave us an intro on how to use the ebike (which was good for my wife who never rode an ebike before), to taking the time to answer all of our questions and guiding us through the process. JDs also does these bike tours where they take you out for a few hrs and show you the best of Boulder. Overall, i had a fantastic time with great company, and i highly recommend JDs Bikes for the next time you are in Boulder looking for an outdoor adventure!!

We had a wonderful tour with Joel on Sunday. Despite us both having worked in Boulder for many years and I’d even lived there, Joel managed to take us places we’d never been before. Wow! I expected a good tour and ride, but it was BEYOND great! JD accommodated last minute additions and logistics with aplomb, and then led our merry group of mixed ages and abilities on a JOYFUL, delightful and informative tour. He knew the best routes, where the best views and least traffic were, and also had just the right amount of guidance. The ebikes were all in good condition and comfortable even for novices. If you are coming to town and want a great activity to get the vibe of town or some fresh air or have visitors coming to town, you really can’t go wrong choosing JD’s Joyrides. We did a GREAT tour with Joel yesterday and we highly recommend JDs Joyrides for anyone looking to have a fun Boulder experience! We rode for about 2.5 hours, covering just under 20 miles, with multiple stops along the way where Joel provided interesting facts and details about the area. We contacted JD's Joyrides at the last minute - early on a Monday morning, wanting to ride that day. Joel was amazing - responsive, informative and friendly! Once we arrived at the bike shack we met Niko who had our bikes all set to go. He explained everything we could possibly need to know to best ride an e-bike. He asked what kind of day (ride) we were looking for, and then offered up a variety of different routes we could take while referencing an easy to read map. Finally - he hopped on his bike and he led us to the entrance of Boulder Creek Path. My sister and I had an extraordinary day biking Boulder Creek Path up into the Boulder Canyon where we had lunch on a boulder sitting at the water's edge. We then biked out to Wonderland Lake for a beautiful view of the FlatIrons! We had the bikes for 4 hours and it was literally a PERFECT day! My background is in customer service which makes me quick to notice where improvements can be made...but also quick to notice when I'm receiving good service. Both Joel & Niko provided exceptional customer service and exceeded my expectations. I will 100% rent from them again (until I bite the bullet and purchase my own e-bike) and would recommend them to anyone living nearby or in town for a visit!

Fantastic experience! Decided totally last minute we wanted to ebike as a family of 5 and no one could help us. Joel immediately called me back and said he’d take care of us. JD’s Joyrides is located at 5151 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder, CO 80303 We can be a little tricky to find as we’re actually off Range St. (Google Maps will get you here.) You’ll find my bike shack in the parking lot BEHIND Updog Day Care. From Arapahoe Ave you’ll turn north onto Range St and then make the second left into the parking lot, just past Updog Day Care’s white fence. Still not finding it? Give me a call and I’ll guide you in! (303-818-5280).
Yes! We have plenty of free parking.
No! JD’s Joyrides does not have a restroom. We’re happy to find a place to stop along the way upon request.
Depending on the ride you book, you can expect to see a combination of murals, mountains, bike paths, Boulder’s unique urban/natural interface and, if we’re lucky, some wildlife. Yes, we’ll see many objects of interest as well as popular Boulder sites/sights, but the main point of every JD’s Joyrides outing is to simply immerse ourselves in the pleasure of riding eBikes in one of the world’s friendliest cycling cities. We’ll go through several neighborhoods, riding on a mix of bike paths, trails and surface streets (we keep our time on busy streets to an absolute minimum). We’ll move at a pace that's comfortable for all, and stop along the way for water/rest breaks, picture opportunities, etc. Your guide will share stories, information and other fun facts, but much of the time you'll find yourself riding along in relative quiet, free to take in the beauty that's all around you.
If you can ride a bike, you can ride an eBike. The “e” in these bikes is pedal assist: if you pedal, the bike will help. You’ll still have to pedal to climb hills, but without gasping for breath or soaking in sweat on your way to the top. In the end, you’ll feel like you rode a bike, but it is by no means a strenuous ride. Exhilarating, yes, but not strenuous. If you can walk a couple of miles with relative ease and have a basic level of comfort on a regular bicycle, then you should have no problem with our eBikes. If you’re still not sure about this, these descriptions should help. Required of all riders I have the basic ability and experience needed to ride a bike on my own. Level 1 (green) I don’t ride regularly, haven’t ridden in a long time, or am not that comfortable on a bike. I’m ready to give this a go but am not sure how well I’ll do. (We’ll make sure you’re feeling comfortable before we even begin the ride, and will check in with you along the way to make sure you’re OK. In our experience, you’re going to have a blast!) Level 2 (blue) I’m very comfortable on a bike and ready to go wherever you take me, assuming it’s safe. (Your safety is our #1 priority.) Level 3 (black) I’m an expert rider and if I knew my way around this town I’d be the one leading the tour! (We hear you and let’s go! (we’re still going to lead though)).
Anyone from 5’ to 6’6” should be able to ride pretty comfortably. Max weight is 275.
Riders must be 14 years of age or older (ages 14-17 must be accompanied by an adult guardian).
All riders must complete an online waiver before riding.
Comfortable clothes for being outdoors on a bike. Please check the forecast for the full day you are riding. Conditions can change quickly in Colorado. Protection against wind and rain are recommended. Because of the pedal assist, your body won't generate as much heat as you maybe used to on a regular bike, and wind chill is a real thing. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. NO flip-flops please!
The following are not required, but strongly recommended: •camera •sunglasses •sunscreen •bike helmet (we'll provide if you don't have one) •water bottle (we'll provide if you don't have one) •rain/cold weather gear (check the forecast before you come and keep in mind that you may be riding at speeds a little higher than you're used to, and Colorado weather can change quickly. Wind chill is a real thing! We recommend dressing in layers.) NOTE: the bikes have racks to which we can attach your pack. Your guide will also have some (but not unlimited) carrying capacity for extra jackets/gear. If you're not sure, bring it!

Reservations are confirmed once payment is received. A full refund will be issued on cancellations received 48 hours or more before scheduled tour/rental start time. A refund less 25% will be issued on cancellations made 24-48 hours in advance of your scheduled reservation. No refunds will be issued on reservations canceled within 24 hours of the scheduled starting time. If you do not show up for your reserved tour/rental, no refund will be issued. We appreciate your understanding.
Weather conditions can change rapidly in Colorado and safety is our highest priority. If the weather is inclement and not conducive to a safe and pleasant tour, JD's Joyrides will cancel the tour and riders can reschedule for another day or receive a full refund. Weather cancellations are subject to the sole discretion of JD's Joyrides.
Yes. You don't have to be a strong or frequent rider, or have prior experience with eBikes, but you should be able to manage yourself fairly comfortably on a bicycle.
Last minute bookings are handled case-by-case based on our availability. We are not a storefront and our location is generally staffed only to meet riders with reservations. We do aim to accommodate our guests as best we can though. If you're considering a last-minute ride, we strongly encourage you to give us a call. We're pretty good about responding to these types of requests and will get back to you quickly either way.

No. All bikes must be returned to the JD’s Joyrides bike shack on the same day they’re rented. The JD’s Joyrides employee setting you up with your rental(s) will give you a clear time by which the bikes must be back at our shack.
